God's Calling Card
When you hear Jesus calling you to invite him into your life, and you respond to his call, you begin a personal relationship with him.
Revelation 3:20 (NIV) says “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
Who is knocking at the door and calling? Revelation 1:1 (NIV) tells us that this is “The revelation from Jesus Christ,..” It is Jesus Christ knocking at the door and calling us.
According to this verse, this isn’t just a casual knocking at our door. It is a knocking with the hope that we will open the door and let him in.
According to Revelation 3:20 (NIV), who may answer his voice and knock? “If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,..”
You may be saying, “You don’t know who I am or what I have been like.” Romans 3:21 (TLB) says “Now God says he will accept and acquit us—declare us “not guilty”—if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like.”
According to Revelation 3:20, what does Jesus want us to do? “If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,..” He wants us to hear him and open the door.
What will Jesus do if we hear him and open the door? “I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” He promises to enter in to anyone who opens the door.
But in Revelation 3:20 Jesus tells us that He will do more than just come into our lives. “I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” By Jesus saying that he will eat with us and we will eat with him, He is saying that He will bring us into an active fellowship and relationship with him.
So, how do we open the door? In Revelation 3:19 (NIV) Jesus says, “So be earnest and repent.” Jesus wants us to be more than being sorry for our sins. The word earnest means “to be deeply committed to” Jesus and our salvation. He also says in this verse that we are to repent. To repent means to change our way of life as the result of a complete change of thought and attitude with regard to sin and living for God.
The reason Jesus came to seek and to save us was because we were lost. Luke 19:10 (NIV) says “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Why were we lost? Romans 3:23 (NIV) says “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
And according to Romans 6:23 (NIV), what are the wages or the results of sin?
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Who has already died for our sins? Romans 5:8-9 (NIV) says “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
When we confess and turn from our sins, what does God do? 1 John 1:9 (NIV) says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
Isaiah 55:7 (NIV) tells us what we should do about the sins we confess to God and apologized for. “Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.”
If you are ready to turn from your sins and believe in Jesus Christ so that you can receive the forgiveness of sin and the hope of eternal life, then take a moment to bow your head and pray a prayer like this one right now:
"Lord Jesus, I want to have life. I know that I have sinned and need Your forgiveness and pardon. I believe that You have knocked on my heart's door and I open my life and let You in. I now turn from my sinful life and accept You as my personal Savior. I know that You will give me the power to live for You. Thank You, Jesus for saving me and for giving me new life."
